Subtitle: See I told you I'd have something to post about soon!
One of my recent subjects of internet research has been composting. I'm not too familiar with the process and I've never done it before. A couple weeks ago I went up to Humbolt County to visit a friend, when I noticed that she quite actively practices composting in her kitchen. That was really the first time I had been exposed to it and since I'd been home I've been doing sporadic searches on the subject to see how I can conveniently and frugally compost in my own home.
I haven't quite found a method that works for me yet (most involve large and/or expensive bins that you practically have to churn or barrel across your yard). I'd like something more obscure, that doesn't stick out like a sore thumb and that doesn't involve too much work. I'm doing this more to reduce waste than I am concerned about producing a sweet fertilizer for my garden. Although that would be something I'd like to get into in the somewhat near future; a nice little fresh fruits, vegetable, and herb garden (I don't have the green thumb and generally everything I touch dies).
Anyway, back to composting, this has seriously been the first helpful site for a beginner: DIY Warrior: How to Make Compost.
Does anyone out there compost? Any beginner tips for me from your personal experiences?

New Blog
Yup, I started a new blog!
"But why, Dana? You hardly update this one."
I have been meaning to update this one, but honestly had nothing to blog about.
"...but you just made a new blog?"
Yes, but it's kind a different subject. Soon I'll be challenging myself to stick to the anti-candida diet to shed a few pounds and improve my health. I'll be tracking my progress and sharing some recipes as I go along.
I've been in kind a slump these past few months so hopefully this'll give me a little extra push to get the ball rolling here too.
Please check out my new blog and support me through this challenging journey!

Sugaring
Two Posts in One day?! I know!
On the subject of cosmetics and skin care, I found another interesting site about hair removal and exfoliating using SUGAR!
I'm of Italian and Israeli descent so I was "blessed" with dark, thick hair. Shaving leaves me with chicken skin legs and ingrown hairs. I can't afford laser hair removal and waxing I keep for the eyebrows (though I go for threading when I can). I've been contemplating purchasing my own waxing kit as it would cost me a fortune to go to a salon, but in my research I stumbled across Sugaring. It's cost effective, serves multiple purposes, and is actually better for your skin!
-Sugaring recipes & instructions
-Waxing vs. Sugaring
-Exfoliate with Sugar
As you may have noticed, one of the key ingredients is honey, which a lot of vegans debate is unvegan, so it's up to you whether you choose to utilize it. Agave Nectar might work just as well. I'll look around for any more information on a more vegan friendly recipe.
Also, be careful when selecting your sugar! Most people don't realize that some sugars aren't even vegetarian let alone vegan. Certain companies will use bone char during the refining process to whiten the sugar: Vegan Sugar.
I haven't tried these methods out yet, but I certainly plan to next chance I get.

I'm Alive. I'm the Last Unicorn!
First off, HAPPY NEW YEAR!
I've been putting off blogging lately as I felt it would be a disservice to any readers. I've been cheating with cheese, though yesterday I restocked my fridge to get myself back on track.
I don't particularly have any new recipes. I'm currently on a quest to perfect a vegan hollandaise sauce as eggs benedict (sans the ham) was my favorite breakfast before I went vegan. The eggs I can live without, but the sauce... What a dream! If any of you know any good recipes please share them with me and I will definitely give them a shot!
After the holidays I purchased a copy of Vegan Yum Yum, which I must say has to be the first vegan book that almost every recipe made my mouth water. I've only made one recipe from it so far (The chickpea and artichoke salad), but I think to help keep myself on the ball I'll challenge myself to cook (and eat) my way through it.
As sort of a follow-up to my last entry, I found another website with information about foods you might not suspect actually contain animal product: Surprising Non-Vegetarian Foods.
I was actually at a Japanese market the other day, picking up some skin care products (I like Japanese products because I feel like they target more of the areas that I have concerns with my skin, and that they actually work unlike most American products). I've been trying to be more aware of animal testing in what I consume, but I must admit, I'm hardly fluent in Japanese (only the basics), so I was unable to tell if the particular brand I purchased did testing or not. I'll have to do some research to see if I can find any information...
Yesterday I was fortunate enough to exchange a christmas gift for a Kitchen Aid Ice Cream maker, which I'm VERY excited to play with (and I get to use the ice cream scoop my friend Stephanie bought me for Christmas <3). I have a book full of ice cream recipes called The Vegan Scoop and I can't wait to try some of them out. I also bought a boba starter kit last night, which includes everything I need to satisfy my daily cravings! I love Milk Tea boba, but I have yet to make it myself and make it vegan at that. So, a lot of new and exciting things to come. Expect recipes! ;)
